The day begins early. Far earlier than anyone would like, really. The excitement that builds up throughout December boils over on Christmas morning, and the first sign of this is always our youngest child, jumping out of bed at the crack of dawn. This year was no different, as our six-year-old son was up by 5 a.m. and immediately began bouncing down the hall like a pinball. We could hear him whispering frantically to his siblings, trying to convince them it was time to get up and see what Santa left. As parents, we tried to hold on to the remnants of sleep, but we all knew it was only a matter of time before the rest of the household stirred and the chaos would officially begin.
The camera comes out early, usually after a bleary-eyed “good morning” and the obligatory coffee. By then, the children have already stormed into the living room and are tearing into their stockings. Wrapping paper is flying in every direction, and the cacophony of paper tearing and excited shrieks fills the room.
